A suitably festive selection of the West Country's finest brews. Lagers, Pale Ales, IPAs and a Bitter or two, each as refreshing as the last.

Whilst the larger cities of this country are right lauded for their contribution to the forward progress of Modern British Beer, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall are home to some of the United Kingdom's most accomplished breweries. This selection showcases the range of delicious refreshment on offer across the South West.

This selection includes:

Save the Storm Tower, Pale Ale, Firebrand Brewing Co, Launceston
A lovely traditional pale with a rich malty backbone, 10% of the sales of which are going towards saving the old Storm Tower in Bude

Steady Rolling Man, Pale Ale, Deya Brewing Co, Cheltenham
A bonafide modern classic, still one of, if not the best New-England style pale ales in the UK.

Dream House, IPA, Left Handed Giant, Bristol
Here Bristol's Left Handed Giant dial down the bitterness of a traditional IPA in favour of an almost tropical fruit experience

West Coast Pils, India Pale Lager, LHG Brewpub, Bristol
Left Handed Giant's little brother (and brewpub) focusses in on those beers designed to be drunk all day. This is a perfect example, marrying the refreshing crispness of a lager with the hit of citrus-y bitterness of a more hop-driven style.

Palindrome, India Pale Lager, Firebrand Brewing Co, Launceston
Fermented for longer, at a colder temperature, like a lager but with the hop flavour of an IPA, this our Launceston neighbours' take on an incredibly satisfying modern style.

Ten Degrees, Session Lager, Utopian Brewing, Crediton
Slowly becoming the country's pre-eminent Lager brewery, using only British ingredients, Utopian are making waves. This Czech-style lager is a perfect example of why.

Vienna Keller Lager, Utopian Brewing, Crediton
Taking a hit at another classic lager style, this time focussing in on those richer, darker malts, this Vienna Lager is a treat.

Saison d'Avon, Belgian-style Ale, Lost & Grounded Brewers, Bristol
A wonderfully spicy beer in the style of Belgium's best Tripels, full of those almost banana-like flavours.

Best Foot Forward, Best Bitter, Deya  Brewing Co, Cheltenham
Not satisfied with simply pushing the boundaries of modern beer styles, Deya are also a dab hand at applying their spin on the most traditional of British beers. This bitter is rich and malty with a satisfying, well, bitterness. Enjoy by a roaring fire.

Beast of Bodmin, Ruby Red Ale, Firebrand Brewing Co, Launceston
One of the first beers Firebrand brewed way back in 2012, and now a perennial favourite on cask, but even canned this full bodied ale has a complex malty taste with a fruity bitter finish.

Golden Boy, English Bitter, Deya Brewing Co, Cheltenham
A real treat from the combined minds of the Deya and St Mars of the Desert teams. An English pale bitter made using a Bavarian style decoction mash in an attempt to draw out the maltiness of Franconian lager. Beautiful.

Running with Spectres, Baltic Porter, Lost & Grounded  Brewers, Bristol
Whilst Alex & the team at Lost & Grounded might be most well known for their house lager, Keller Pils, this cracking porter layers chocolate and coffee flavours from the darker malts on top of their lager base to create something to savour.
